The Journey

The sound of water draws you deeper into the mountains.
The mountains shift with the seasons, leading you quietly onward.

Tracing the clear flow of the Kibune River, you arrive at a quiet place in the mountains - the culinary ryokan Hyoue. On its top floor is SEN - a place to gather by the fire.

In spring, we go into the fields and forests. In summer, we seek coolness in the mountains. In autumn, we celebrate the harvest. In winter, we find comfort by the fire.

With the turning of the seasons, we share the ways of living and the quiet ingenuity of those who dwell in the mountains.

Thus begins SEN.

About

The Meaning of SEN

The word sen (仙) refers to those who live in the mountains — and to the belief that by mastering such a life, one may become a sennin, a mountain sage. Our roots reach back to our great-grandfather, once the head priest of Kifune Shrine, who welcomed guests with dishes prepared from wild plants and game he gathered and hunted himself.

From this comes the name SEN. SEN is more than a place to dine. It is a place where people come together — through experiences and objects found only here.
